Jacques Cousteau called Higgins Lake the 6th most beautiful lake in the world to National Geographic due to the distinctive drop-offs for snorkelers and divers. It also offers an exquisite swimming location with its shallow and sandy shores.
Early morning anglers can enjoy fishing for perch, walleye, small mouth bass and much more. Boating enthusiasts can enjoy a day full of tubing, skiing or cruising the beautiful shore lines. Fodor's named Higgins lake one of 15 most beautiful hidden gem lakes in the country. Citing fishing , swimming, beautiful shorelines, and the many boat launches as reasons to visit! Au Sable River |
The historic Au Sable River best known for it's brown trout and blue ribbon designation (AKA the highest quality fishing you will ever experience!) you do not want to miss the canoe on this one! Our favorite way to enjoy the river is canoeing and kayaking. We also love swimming at the local swimming hole and casting a line for trout!

All things coke... Your stay with us here at Higgins Lake KOA would not be complete without a trip to nearby Grayling's Dawson and Stevens 50's Diner and Bottle-Cap Museum. Here is housed the largest private collection of Coca-Cola related items in Northern Michigan. Besides breakfast,lunch, and dinner, you can enjoy a 50's style soda fountain. The diner and museum is located about ten miles north on the interstate in Grayling.

Visit a terrific museum at the AuSable River Center in Roscommon (just four miles away)... This museum features a handcrafted birch canoe, plus other canoeing artifacts and info, a model train station and Roscommon Village, and water testing specimens from the AuSable River. Wanna shop... If shopping is what you'd like to do, then you have to check out these places. Approximately 20 miles south of Higgins Lake KOA is Houghton Lake, home of antique/craft shops and some quaint boutiques. In West Branch, roughly a 45-minute drive, is the Tanger Outlet Mall.
