Local Area Activities
Visit the crystal clear waters and golden sandy beaches of nearby Higgins Lake... Voted National Geographic's sixth most beautiful lake in the world, this 10,000 acre lake offers excellent swimming with its shallow, sandy shores and distinctive drop-offs for a snorkeler's dream come true. Early morning anglers can enjoy fishing for perch, walleye, small mouth bass and much more. Boating enthusiasts can enjoy a day full of tubing, skiing or cruising the beautiful shore lines. The north end of the lake is just a five minute drive from our campground or a slightly longer walk or bike ride. Click for directions to the beach, picnic area and boat ramp.
Want to have some fun playing miniature golf... Pirate's Cove, The Original Adventure Golf, is located in nearby Prudenville-Houghton Lake. Check out miniature golf here.
All things coke... Your stay with us here at Higgins Lake KOA would not be complete without a trip to nearby Grayling's Dawson and Stevens 50's Diner and Bottle-Cap Museum. Here is housed the largest private collection of Coca-Cola related items in Northern Michigan. Besides breakfast,lunch, and dinner, you can enjoy a 50's style soda fountain. The diner and museum is located about ten miles north on the interstate in Grayling.

Take a trip down the South Branch of the historic Au Sable River... Campbell's Canoeing, located approximately five miles from Higgins Lake Campground in Roscommon, Michigan, offers 1.5 hour to two-day trips on the river. Check out the Campbell's Canoeing website.
Paddle Brave is a canoe livery located on the south branch of the Au Sable River. It is the closest livery to beautiful Mason Wilderness Tract. Canoe trips are offered ranging in length from 1-1/2 hours to a 6-day adventure to Lake Huron." Visit Paddle Brave website for more details. Join us for Michigan Firemen's Memorial... Roscommon, Michigan is home to the Michigan Firemen's Memorial. Each year a Festival is held in the month of September. "Fire Chiefs, Fire Fighters, EMS and thousands of friends and family from all over the United States and foreign countries gather in memory of valiant Fire Fighters who gave the supreme sacrifice of their lives while protecting their communities." Go Four-Wheeling on the ORV Trails... Beaver Creek Trail CCCCT West for Roscommon County runs right near Higgins Lake KOA. Check out the map.

Visit Roscommon Zoo... Roscommon Zoo is home to over 100 domestic and exotic animals from around the world. Educational and BEhind the Scenes Tours are offered. Visit Roscommon Zoo website for more details.
Want some food, fun, and bowling... Fred's of Roscommon - fine restaurant, bar, pool table, pizzeria, and cosmic bowling. Check out their website. Fred's is approximately four miles from our campground.
Visit a terrific museum at the AuSable River Center in Roscommon (just four miles away)... This museum features a handcrafted birch canoe, plus other canoeing artifacts and info, a model train station and Roscommon Village, and water testing specimens from the AuSable River. Wanna shop... If shopping is what you'd like to do, then you have to check out these places. Approximately 20 miles south of Higgins Lake KOA is Houghton Lake, home of antique/craft shops and some quaint boutiques. In West Branch, roughly a 45-minute drive, is the Tanger Outlet Mall.
